The wind industry is just getting started!

Opinion piece by John Galliford, Operations Director at RTS Wind UK

In recent times headlines emanating from the USA have painted a troubling picture of the wind industry but at RTS Wind UK we see a different story. The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) confirmed that in 2024 the industry added 117 GW of new wind capacity, matching the record set in 2023 and bringing total global capacity to more than 1,136 GW. That same year wind power generated around 8% of global supply.

Wind power is delivering more clean, secure and cost-competitive energy than ever before and the global trajectory is one of record-breaking growth.

Offshore wind added 8 GW of new capacity in 2024 and is opening entirely new frontiers for clean energy from UK waters to Taiwan’s rapidly expanding offshore market. RTS Wind are specialists in providing full service operations and maintenance of these assets.

For the planet supporting wind isn’t just a commercial decision; it’s a commitment to a cleaner, more secure energy future. The benefits are tangible, including reduced reliance on imported fossil fuels which protects the country from things like Russia, plus it provides high-quality skilled jobs throughout the supply chain.

No energy transition of this scale comes without hurdles. Policy changes, economic cycles and market fluctuations will always be part of the picture, but history shows the industry is resilient and each time, it has come back stronger. Even across the pond.

In fact the supply chain is now more robust than ever with growing local capacity, greater international cooperation and advances in safety and operational efficiency.

Collaboration is key. Developers, suppliers, policymakers and service companies all have a role to play in ensuring momentum. At RTS Wind we are committed to working alongside our partners to overcome challenges and keep delivering clean power at scale – safely, reliably and efficiently – both on installation, life extension, training, offering full turnkey solutions.

The wind industry isn’t standing still, it is accelerating with forecasts annual wind power installations to rise to 194 GW by 2030. With record-breaking installations, ever-improving technology and a united supply chain, the future is looking bright.

We believe the wind is still very much the future and together we’re building a cleaner, stronger energy future. If you believe as strongly as we do in the future of the industry, give us a call.
